Matthieu LeBlanc's inspiration for his work comes from his attraction to nature and more specifically his fascination with wood. This fondness grew from many hours of exploring Nova Scotia's forests during some of his most formative years. It was this interest that eventually lured him to the West Coast to see the great rainforest of Vancouver Island, and later convinced him to make Vancouver his home.
Matt has explored his craft from all angles. He has studied interior design in Toronto, wood manufacturing in Cape Breton and wood crafting and turning from coast to coast. Through it all, necessity dictated that Matt use salvaged wood that was unseasoned. This, in the end, was the biggest influencer of his work. The challenges imposed by the irregular pieces began to define his style.
